What is the Southern Hemisphere?

Our world is shaped like a big ball.  We call that shape a "sphere".

If we cut the big ball in two parts, or just think of it that way, each part is one half of a sphere, or a "hemisphere".

The Southern Hemisphere is the part of the world that has the South Pole at the center.  On our globe in the classroom it looks like the "bottom half" of the globe.

All penguins live in this bottom half of the world, called the Southern Hemisphere.
